Who are more Valuable – Apple or Android or BlackBerry people?

If Phil Libin is to be believed, it is Apple people who are more valuable as compared to others.  At least for a company called Evernote whose software permits you to save, capture and even access information on your mobile gadgets and/or your desktop.

Statistics prove that iOS provides more number of new users per developer as compared to any other platform.  The VentureBeat Mobile Summit held recently had Libin give a presentation which mentioned that roughly 28 per cent of the overall revenue of Evernote is generated through iOS users.  iOS even took the lead when it came to number of users generated per developer.  Windows desktop application was also noted significantly for generating 24 per cent of the overall revenue of Evernote.  Mac was not far behind with 20 per cent.  Another interesting observation was that the users of any particular application become more valuable as time passes since they become more dependent on the application and even grow more comfortable with it.

Libin also mentioned that iPhone is gradually replacing BlackBerry in the category of preferred business mobiles.  Since 2009, reports and articles have been publishing this observation that users are moving away from BlackBerry and towards iPhone.  To beat competition, RIM (Research in Motion, the company behind BlackBerry) is proposing to introduce the BlackBerry Messenger service on other competing handsets like the iPhone.  If that does happen, it could give a much-needed boost to RIM in terms of revenue.

Phantom Limb Syndrome and Mobile Users

The Telegraph recently published an article which compared one’s addictive obsession with cell phones and several other gadgets to phantom limb syndrome.

In case you are wondering what this phantom limb syndrome is, let me explain that to you in simple words.  It is primarily a sensation felt by people who have lost a limb and experience ache, pain, tickling or tingling in the area of the missing limb.  Doctors initially did not find any logical reasoning behind such a sensation and dismissed it by calling it as a mere imagination or a work by the nerve endings.  However now the syndrome has been proven as the brain reorganises itself and remaps that part, which once used to control the missing limb.  This eventually causes phantom sensations.

Applying the same phenomenon to computer or mobile use, some people are extremely reliant and dependant on their gadgets that they can literally be termed as living on their gadgets and even sleeping with them.  The mobile phone is not just treated as a phone these days, but is also used for storage, as an organiser, a photo album, emails, calendar, notepad and dictionary, to give a fair idea.  The gadgets are becoming more of an extension of peoples’ own bodies and have almost become indispensable.

Talking of inanimate objects becoming more like a body part of ours, experiments were conducted which support this idea.  Spanning 1,000 students in 10 countries, a new study reveals that they can relate such a theory to their mobiles.

Strict Punishment for Using Camera in Mobile

In a recent incident as reported by the website of Times of India, a man’s head was shaven for using his mobile to take a girl’s photographs.  What one would call it as mob justice, a man from inside the customer care centre of a telecom company was grabbed by a group of people, who not only dragged him out and took him to the street, but also shaved his head.  His crime was that he was using the camera in his mobile for taking pictures of a female employee at the care centre.

The man caught taking photos has been identified as Sabir Sheikh.  It is believed that he found the lady to be attractive and just when he was capturing the photos, the people around noticed him and immediately cornered him.  The police official also stated that they paraded him in open public and to serve him a lesson, shaved off half side of his head too.  They even registered an official complaint against him.

With the new mobile phones having latest technology of recording photos and videos, many trends are getting highlighted which can be construed as cases of violating personal rights as well as one’s privacy.  What comes to one’s mind immediately is the terrible trend of happy snapping, which is in no way, something to feel happy.  If a stranger takes your photo using their mobile without taking your permission, you do not know who may use it and for what purpose.

This surely acts as a warning for us in the UK – just because you are capable of taking photos anywhere, you do not get the right to do so automatically.

Fly Mobile to Strengthen its Position in Indian Market With 4 New Android Smartphones

I am unsure if you have heard about Fly Mobile, a not too popular mobile phone company originating from UK. It primarily sells low end mobile handsets to customers who have connections from a variety of mobile phone networks. It has a major presence in India and now, as per UTV Techtree.com, Fly Mobile is all set to launch 4 new Android smart phones in the Indian marketplace.

The handset prices will range between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 10,000 and are expected to hit the shelves by Q3, 2011. Fly Mobile’s CEO, Mr Prem Kumar is quite upbeat about company’s future plans. He informed that apart from these smart phone launches, they are also strengthening their app ecosystem and will launch an India centric app store by third quarter of this year.

These new smart phone launches show that Fly Mobile is slowly shifting its focus from lower end mobile phones segment to one featuring handsets capable of providing excellent multimedia experience to the customers, apart from music play back and streaming video features. The company is also targeting an expansion in its shops and service centre network in India. They plan to increase their numbers from 384 to 450.

It cannot be ascertained whether the company will remain focused on India where it is one of the bigger players, or has any similar aggressive marketing plans for UK as well. Presently, their handsets are available on Amazon.com. For instance, their Fly v60 which is a sim-free phone having multiple network (except 3) compatibility, can be bought at a price of £24.99 on Amazon; impressive price tag for a low end mobile phone.
