Apple’s iPhone 4S’s first-quarter sales figures have helped the company improve dramatically over its performance for the same period last year. The latest figures show that the Apple iPhone sales were a total worth of £7.2 billion in the first quarter of this year. The company managed to pull off a great performance of 35 million mobile phone sales between the time-period of January to March. Their excellent performance was also contributed by the great reception received for the new iPad in the market. All these statistics prove that it will be yet another strong year for Apple and another strong year for the mobile phone recycling as well.
The companies involved in mobile phone recycling announced that the older versions of iPhones are hot selling items in the mobile phone recycling marketplace. Not only are the first and second versions of iPhone getting increasingly turned in for recycling, many iPhone 4 models are also being brought in for mobile phone recycling. This is excellent news for people who cannot afford the latest iPhones. Such people can benefit from the working second-hand iPhone 4 models which have passed through the quality assurance tests at the mobile phone recycling company. Recycling such iPhones not only gives a good revenue generation medium to the mobile phone recycling companies, it also gives many consumers the chance to use a phone that they are always wanted to have.

Popular Recycled Mobile Phones
Mobile phone recycling is back in the news, courtesy the recent launch of iPhone 4S.
Customers all over the world have been spending hours online to find answers to queries about mobile phone recycling and the new iPhone 4S. Such queries have been mainly coming from the regions where Android and BlackBerry phones are getting recycled in great numbers.
A 72 per cent hike in the amount of old mobiles being traded in was observed recently. The trade-ins were mainly about recycling of old mobile phones with a company that will provide a nominal discount towards the purchase of the new iPhone 4S. Just as Apple had predicted, people all over the world are raving about their new offering. Experts in other industries are expecting that more and more people will begin opting for mobile phone recycling as a great method to generate some quick cash for their new purchase.
The increasing number of Androids and BlackBerrys getting recycled just proves how popular Apple iPhone is, especially in comparison to other smart phone models. Industry analysts are calling this phenomenon, the ‘iPhone Effect’ because every time a new model of iPhone is launched in the marketplace, millions of old mobiles get turned in.
Regardless of the fact that millions of old mobiles get turned in for the latest smart phone, there are still a great multitude of people who cannot afford the new model. These people prefer buying old versions of the smartphones that are at least better than the ones they are currently using.

US Patent Wars
A recent development last week involved HTC, a popular cell phone maker, as found guilty by the International Trade Commission of the US for infringement of two of Apple’s patents related to the iPhone. However, HTC has denied these charges and is appealing for the same. It has threatened to hit Apple with loads of patents which were gained at the time of acquiring S3 Graphics. Peter Chou, HTC’s Chief Executive, also stated to BBC that they have sufficient patents to clarify their stand and will definitely win. He even added that wars to win customers should be fought in the market place instead of in the courts.
On a related aspect, Apple has also aimed at Google which manufactures Android, the operating system being used by HTC in its handsets. A reputed patent expert, Florian Mueller, believes that Apple’s lawsuit against HTC is actually directed towards the core of Android’s OS functionalities. For the same reason, he predicts there could be a serious patent issue for entire Android ecosystem.
To add to this, Apple has also targeted Samsung Electronics in issues related to patent infringement. Samsung, holding roughly 28,700 patents, claims that just in the US, Apple has been found infringing on many of its own patents.
Samsung’s top executive told BBC that more than 50% of iPhone’s components are being manufactured by Samsung.
While we enjoy the benefits of new and innovative SmartPhone technology, we definitely see that the manufacturers are at war over patents. This competition is only going to make things better for us.
