More than 1 billion phones are manufactured and introduced into the marketplace throughout the world every year. Unfortunately, just about 1% of all those phones are put through mobile phone recycling. Environmental experts are requesting people to consider the option of mobile phone recycling, both for their pockets as well as the environment. A popular manufacturer of mobile phones revealed that though not apparent, every mobile phone consists of close to 150 gm of silver, gold and other important rare materials. All these precious materials get lost when the mobile phones are disposed off in the landfills. This is another important reason why many experts are encouraging people to opt for mobile phone recycling.

Mobile phone recycling also provides a great incentive in the form of handy cash to the owner. The fact that they also contribute to the environmental cause, though unknowingly, is an added benefit.

A recently carried out study on the whole of Europe revealed that almost 160 million mobile phones are discarded in Europe every year. This means a loss of around $500 million per year in the form of precious materials. The usage of recycled materials in electronic devices and new mobile phones could in itself make those gadgets a little cheaper.

In fact, there are many more reasons to opt for mobile phone recycling other than just the easy cash obtained from it. It is about saving our planet, reusing the raw materials so that the new gadgets are less expensive and ensuring that the rare materials do not get extinct from our planet.

It is Official – BlackBerry Mobile Phones are the Most Recycled

It has now been ascertained that the BlackBerry mobile phones are the most recycled ones in the marketplace.

As many as £2.65 million worth of mobile phones were recycled in the month of January 2012, of which BlackBerry mobile phones were the most recycled. Apple 3GS also stood high on the list fetching an average price of £104 for every handset turned in.

Other phones that were found to be extensively recycled included Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Wildfire and the HTC Desire. BlackBerry lost a significant market share in the year 2011 and that seems to be the reason why a large number of BlackBerry mobile phones were turned in for recycling right at the beginning of this year. The start of a new year marks the completion of the previous contracts and the beginning of the new ones. Hence, this period also witnesses a large number of mobile phones getting recycled in exchange of handy cash, which in turn is used towards the purchase of a new mobile phone. Apple 4S is currently getting a lot of attention in the marketplace and it is all set to become the most sought-after phone in the year 2012.

The study also revealed that the BlackBerry mobile phone sales figures went up by 28%. However, this is not very good news for the brand as BlackBerry was also found to be the most recycled phone. The month of January alone has witnessed around 40,000 BlackBerry mobile phones getting recycled. What is even more interesting is that most of these recycled phones are in good condition with almost unnoticeable to no damages. This indicates that the owners of these mobile phones were looking for an upgrade rather than continuing with their BlackBerry models.

Recycling Mobile Phones to Help Exploited and Missing Children

Children are the future. They must be protected and cared for. However, unfortunately, children are not treated the same way throughout the world. What is worse is that they end up missing, mistreated and abused in various countries. Sprint, a US based company has initiated a mobile phone recycling programme which will offer assistance to the NCMEC (National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children). The company has already pulled in significant amount of funds for the organization.

Though there is no such programme in the UK as of now, this doesn’t mean that we cannot do our bit for the cause. Even you can help children by opting for mobile phone recycling. The money you obtain from recycling can be donated to any charity that is working towards a similar cause. If you cannot find an appropriate charity, you can directly donate the amount to a needy child.

Mobile phone recycling can earn you some handy cash. A popular model can even fetch you a much larger amount. Anyways, the amount you earn from mobile phone recycling is not as important as the effort you make for the cause. As the US programme provides an excellent medium to people to do their bit for children, it has earned great popularity there and has even caught the attention of millions of people in other parts of the world. Kids, though can be self-sufficient, there are many things they can’t do on their own. Mobile phone recycling can help us do our bit for the environment as well as for such unfortunate children. Hopefully, someone in UK will initiate a similar programme soon.

Apps for Mobile Phones Just Improving

For better apps, upgrade yourself to newer phones.

Currently, this app is in Canada which reminds all residents to recycle and also put out their trash.  You cannot get it yet but I can suggest many reasons for you to start using mobile phone recycling.  E-waste recycling not only keeps trash out of landfills but even helps in making the environment cleaner and greener apart from fetching you some money for it.  Why don’t you take a cue and make something similar for us in the UK?

More Cell phone Recycling after Nokia advertising

The Nokia Ace advertising will increase the mobile phone recycling to a great extent.

Microsoft is planning to spend around £63.9 million on their new advertising campaign, which will be launched along with the new Nokia Ace.  Experts feel that a new spate of mobile phone recycling will be sparked.  Considering that many people begin looking out for new phones which are hot commodities, it is surely not an unfounded theory.  Most of the people therefore are inclined to figure out ways for turning in their old phones.  Cell phone recycling is by far the easiest way to get rid of an old cell phone and also fetch some money in exchange.

Though the marketing campaign will begin earlier, Nokia Ace is expected to be in stores around end March.  The campaign will aim at reminding the buyers about the entry of the new phone.  The option of windows enabled phone will be promoted by Microsoft.  They will sell the Nokia at AT&T in the USA, while in the UK, it will be released little later than the US.

A 5.4% share that Microsoft holds in the market is substantially lower compared to the 46.3% that the Android platform holds.  This low share is one of the reasons behind this campaign being launched at an electronics show in Las Vegas.  Moreover, more people are expected to show an interest in recycling their mobile phones.  Undoubtedly, a great way to make some money to buy a new phone!
